Growing edible flowers

Ever wondered what flowers tastes like or what they could add to a dish? We were surprised with the flavors and medicinal attributes of these colorful buds. From peppery marigold to fresh borage these blooms add a pop of color to toasts, pastas or yummy bakes. 

These flowers can be pressed and dried for decoration or freshly topped for an exquisite display. Take beautiful Borage, these flowers are high in vitamin C and A. Or Johnny Jump ups have been used for bronchial issues and are anti-microbial.

Growing gardens with kids

Initially our family as a whole was hesitant about the whole ‘get dirty and plant seeds’ concept. But alas we found our groove and our children went from seeing tiny seeds to big plants to eat, smell and pick. We were hooked despite the constant hard work.

We encourage our children by setting goals and letting them know how much their effort means. There is nothing sweeter than a freshly picked blackberry from your own backyard when you know you helped make that happen. Your children will understand the fruits of their labor and patience when tending to the ground.


Unschooling with nature

Children are these limitless beings with a huge desire to explore and utilize their own senses and discernment’s. When we give them the space to learn at the their own pace they flourish. 

We haven’t always seen it this way though. It took years of experiencing the school system fist hand to see that our children deserved more. More time to run and be free. More time to explore themselves and their talents. That is how we connect with ourselves. We have discovered that they have a better understanding of how the world actually works.
